FIFA 14 proves the bookmakers don’t always know best, jumping ahead of Call of Duty: Ghosts to claim the 2013 Christmas No.1 spot.
EA’s FIFA 14 trailed Call of Duty by only a few hundred units last week, and this week soared ahead by an impressive 17,00 units to claim the franchise’s first Xmas No.1 since FIFA 09.
In the 28 years of the video game chart EA has secured 14 Xmas No.1s, eight of which came from FIFA titles.
Elsewhere, Assassin’s Creed 4 almost doubled sales week-on-week thanks to heavy retailer promotions to see it climb to No.3. Rockstar’s GTA 5 was also a big mover with sales up 94 per cent to see the blockbuster title chart at No.6.
PS4 hardware bundle sales helped Killzone: Shadow Fall reclaim a Top 10 place at No.9, whilst Minecraft takes 10th to keep Gran Turismo 6 out of the elite list.
