It always looked likely to be an EA game sitting that the top of the chart this Christmas, it’s just that most thought it would be Need for Speed Carbon and not FIFA 07.

EA claims its fourth consecutive Christmas No.1, and its sixth in the last decade. It was a close race at the top with FIFA taking the No.1 position by only 4,500 sales. WWE Smackdown Vs RAW 2007 climbs to third, Pro Evolution Soccer 6 takes fourth spot, and Call of Duty 3 spends Christmas at No.5.

Microsoft’s Gears of War climbs one place to No.7 and is the only single-format title to make the top ten this Christmas. The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess falls seven places to No.12 despite its release on GameCube. Elsewhere, Midway’s Happy Feet continues to climb the chart, moving up three places to No.8. It’s also a good week for fellow movie tie-in Flushed Away, which breaks into the Top 40 at No. 26 after four weeks on release – the first Top 40 title for D3 Publisher.

Pro-G will be taking a Christmas break next week so we’ll be back with more chart news in the New Year.
