The yearly FIFA release is highly predictable and this year is no different. Released on all platforms (Xbox 360 release later this month), the football behemoth has one again shot straight to the top of the chart, displacing Lego Star Wars II from its lofty perch. The game becomes the seventh all-time fastest selling All Formats release – notching up 84% of sales on the PlayStation 2. So strong were PS2 sales that it has eclipsed first week sales of any previous PS2 FIFA game.

Just Cause is up 17% and holds on to the No.2 spot, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07 is up 88% and remains in third, and LMA Manager 2007 also sees a sales boost, up 28%. After FIFA 07 the next highest new entry comes form Kingdom Hearts II, outselling its predecessor’s first week by five to one. THQ’s PC RTS and possible game of the year, Company of Heroes, also gets off to a strong start at No.7, and Project Gotham Racing 3’s bundle status sees it climb even further up the chart to No.11.

This week’s new releases include Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence, GTR 2, Import Tuner Challenge, Mercury Meltdown, Open Season, and a collection of sports releases from EA and 2K Sports – none of which are likely to replace FIFA 07.
