FIFA 07 begins the year at No.1 and is followed by Need for Speed Carbon and The Sims 2: Pets at No.2 and No.3 respectively.

It’s not a great week for video game sales on the whole though, with every game in the Top 40 seeing a sales drop, some more so that others. Making the most of the post Christmas lull in new releases are Canis Canem Edit, which climbs three places to No.5, Cars, which is up three to No.7, and Lego Star Wars II and New Super Mario Bros, which both re-enter the top 10.

Outside of the Top 40 the shuffling of places continues, with the week’s highest climber, Buzz! Junior: Jungle Party, grabbing a vine and moving from No.39 to No.23.

There should be a spurt of excitement next-week, with a number of high profile releases expected to shake up the Top 10. Lost Planet: Extreme Condition is expected to sell well following some sustained interest in the game thanks to several demos released on Xbox Live Marketplace.

Elsewhere, Nintendo will be looking to WarioWare: Smooth Moves to attract the attention of early Wii buyers, and sports fans have SEGA’s World Snooker Championship 2007 to keep them occupied during the January release slump.
