Destiny: The Taken King has secured Activision’s first No.1 video game in the UK since Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare’s last time at the top back in February.

The PS4 version accounted for 57 per cent of retail sales, followed by 34 per cent on Xbox One, seven per cent on Xbox 360 and just two per cent on PS3.

Launch sales for The Taken King expansion represent only 16 per cent of the original game’s debut last year.

It was a busy week for new releases with Forza Motorsport 6 new at No.2 and PES 2016 managing only third place. All this means Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain is knocked down to fourth spot, Mad Max down to fifth and Super Mario Maker at No.6.

Elsewhere Rugby League Live 3 performs well to chart in ninth spot ahead of EA’s NHL 16 at No.15.

Things will change again when FIFA 16 launches on Thursday, with the game sure to chart at No.1. The question is just how big the game will be, launching just one week after PES 2016. Also new this week is Activision’s Skylanders: Superchargers, which marks a major change for the toys to life series thanks to the introduction of vehicles.
