In a week which has been dominated by the launch of two new hardware platforms – the Nintendo 3DS and iPad 2 – it is EA and Crytek’s Crysis 2 which managed to claim the All Formats All Prices UK video game chart No.1.

Crysis 2 fought off LEGO Star Wars III and last week’s No.1 Homefront to take the top spot, with much of the rest of the chart dominated by 3DS new releases.

Super Street Fighter IV 3D Edition was the new handheld’s best-selling single SKU at No.4, with Pilotwings Resort following close behind at No.6. Rayman 3D also snuck into the Top 10 at No.9.

Super Monkey Ball 3D is at No.14, Ridge Racer 3D makes No.15, PES 2011 is at No.18 and nintendogs + cats: Golden Retriever starts chart life at No.20 – combined sales across all three SKUs would likely place the game higher. Outside of the Top 20, Ubisoft’s Ghost Recon: Shadow Wars and Splinter Cell 3D charted at No.34 and No.39 respectively.

Given the spread of new releases for 3DS we didn’t expect any one game to be popular enough at launch to outsell Crysis 2. With sales of the 3DS hardware likely to fall dramatically in its second week we also expect software to fall out of the chart in a dramatic fashion.

The bevy of new releases this week was also bad news for the likes of Dragon Age II and Bulletstorm, falling to No.13 and No.26 respectively.

New releases to look out for next week include Shift II: Unleashed, MotorStorm: Apocalypse, Tiger Woods 12 and WWE All Stars.
