Despite a 13% drop in sales, EA’s Burnout Paradise is able to claim a second week at the top of the All Formats video game chart, beating off competition from Nintendo’s Wii Play, Call of Duty 4 and Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games.
For the second week the Xbox 360 version of Burnout Paradise outsold the PlayStation 3 version, although only by a small margin. 51% of the game’s sales were made by Xbox 360 gamers, although sales on the format were down 13% over last week.
New Wii stock hitting retail outlets gave a huge boost to sales of Wii Play, up 87% and two places to No.2. Despite the increased availability of Wii consoles SEGA’s Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games saw a 46% slump in sales and dropped two places to No.4. Nintendo’s Donkey Kong Jet Race does benefit though, making a huge leap from No.33 to No.11.
The only new release to debut in the All Formats Top 40 is Kingdom Under Fire: Circle of Doom on Xbox 360 at No.33. Expect much more action from new releases next week with The Club, Devil May Cry 4, Conflict: Denied Ops, Turok and the DS version of Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games all hungry for success.
