GfK ChartTrack reports that Activision’s Call of Duty: Black Ops held on at the top of the All Formats UK video game chart, despite competition from Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood and EA’s Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit.

Sales for Black Ops took a huge 85 per cent hit over week one, but the game can still boast a 63,000 unit lead over Brotherhood, itself setting a week one sales record for the franchise. 55 per cent of Brotherhood sales were on Xbox 360.

NFS: Hot Pursuit has to make do with third place, but it performed much better than EA’s Harry Potter tie-in; Deathly Hallows – Part 1 managed only 20th place.

According to ChartTrack, Black Ops sold a massive two million units in its first week, meaning an 85 per cent decrease represents week two sales of approximately 300,000 units.

ChartTrack also states that Black Ops is 63,000 units ahead of Brotherhood, putting the week one figure for Ubisoft’s highly marketed sequel at around 237,000 units. Assassin’s Creed is considered a tent pole title, but the gulf in popularity between it and Call of Duty is clear to see.

Brotherhood and Hot Pursuit both earned hugely positive reviews and should continue to sell well into the New Year.

There was no place in the Top 40 for EA’s Create, Ubisoft’s Prince of Persia Trilogy, Nintendo’s FlingSmash and Activision’s Apache Air Assault.

Sonic Colours had a second week rebound, jumping 18 places to No.18, likely thanks to price cuts which saw the game being sold online for £17.99.
