Assassin’s Creed Unity entered the UK Video Game Chart at No.2, missing out on the top spot to Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare by 16,000 units, Chart-Track reports.

Advanced Warfare actually saw its second week sales drop a huge 77 per cent, but was still able to outsell the new-gen only Assassin’s Creed.

Unity sold 52 per cent on PS4 with Xbox One taking 46 per cent, which is a smaller gap than you’d have imagined given the install base advantage the PS4 has in the UK. It looks like the Xbox-led marketing and Assassin’s Creed Xbox One console bundle has done the trick for MS.

It’s hard to compare Unity’s sales with that of Black Flag given last year’s game launched first on Xbox 360 and PS3. However, Chart-Track states that Unity has bettered the launch total of the last-gen Black Flag.

Assassin’s Creed: Rogue debuts at No.6 on PS3 and Xbox 360. Combine the launch sales of both new Assassin’s Creed titles and it would better that of Advanced Warfare this week.

Xbox One exclusive Halo: The Master Chief Collection is new at No.3, becoming the biggest launch for an MS published Xbox One title and the seventh biggest Xbox One launch from any publisher.

Other new entries this week include LEGO Batman 3 at No.5, PES 2015 at No.8 (FIFA 15 is still going strong at No.4 with sales up by two per cent), and WoW Warlords of Draenor in ninth spot.

Minecraft also launched on PS Vita and claims the biggest launch of the title on all PlayStation platforms. The block building sandbox is also the third biggest launch on PS Vita, only bettered by Uncharted: Golden Abyss and FIFA Football.

Elsewhere it’s a bad week for SEGA with Football Manager 2015 falling from No.3 to No.14 and Alien: Isolation dropping from No.4 to No.15.

The overwhelmingly negative player reaction to Assassin’s Creed Unity will be of a major concern to Ubisoft, which will expect its latest open-world title to stick around in the chart for many weeks to come. Last year’s AC Black Flag currently sits in 16th position and has spent 48 weeks on the chart. With a number of other big titles still to launch the pressure is on Ubisoft to fix the title before the wind is knocked out of its sales.

It’s actually Ubisoft’s own Far Cry 4 which could snatch sales away from Unity, but it too will suffer from launching alongside Rockstar’s GTA 5 on PS4 and Xbox One. We expect GTA 5 to take the top spot from COD Advanced Warfare, but the race for second will be a battle between Far Cry 4 and Dragon Age: Inquisition.

Also new this week and hoping to make a splash inside the Top 10 are Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor (old-gen), Escape Dead Island, Sonic Boom, Watch Dogs Wii U and WWE 2K15 (new-gen).
