Filmmaker James Cameron is a great advocate of 3D cinema and believes 3D or “stereo production” is not limited to just the movie theatre.

“Stereo production is the next big thing,” said Cameron. “We are born seeing in three dimensions. Most animals have two eyes and not one. There is a reason I think.”

Cameron is of the belief that video games are one area which will benefit hugely from the technology.

“You are in the game,” he said. “This is the ultimate immersive media.”

It’s no surprise to hear that Ubisoft’s Avatar video game, based on Cameron’s upcoming 3D motion picture of the same name. Cameron told an audience at Microsoft’s Advance 08 advertising conference that the game is already up and running using an Xbox 360 and 3D glasses.

The Avatar movie is currently scheduled for release in December 2009.
