While it had been confirmed that Ubisoft will publish Lumines in North America, today the company announced that they have joined forces with Bandai and will also publish the PSP game in Europe, in conjunction with the PSP launch (whenever that is).

Lumines is a puzzle game from the creator of REZ, Sega Rally and Space Channel 5. Players must match falling blocks with blocks of the same colour, creating blocks of colour that are at least 2×2 in size. Sections of colour that are at least this size will be removed from the game as the sequencing bar passes across the screen. While it sounds simple, this makes for one of the most addictive puzzle games we have ever played.

Since the game was released as a launch title for the PSP in Japan it has sold in excess of 40,000 units. The European version of Lumines will offer a number of enhancements over the Japanese version, the most important of which being quicker load times.

We’ll have more on the Sony PSP and Lumines in the coming weeks.
