Ubisoft has announced in a livestream that it is expanding its business with the opening of two new studios in Quebec, Canada. This expansion will create 1,000 jobs in the region by 2027. This news means Ubisoft plans to significantly increase its investment in the region, as well as its contribution to the local education infrastructure.

Ubisoft’s CEO of the Montreal, Quebec and Toronto studios, Yannis Mallat, announced plans for a studio in the Quebec province of Saguenay which intends to create 125 jobs over the next five years. Ubisoft Saguenay is planned to open in early 2018 and will focus on developing online technology that’s dedicated to the ‘new and more connected game experiences’.

‘We are proud to have contributed to the emergence of Quebec as a world-renowned hub for video game development,’ said Ubisoft CEO, Yves Guillemot.

Established studios will also see an increase in workforce, with 200 jobs being created at Ubisoft’s Quebec City studio and 675 at the Montreal studio, which is home to the Assasin’s Creed and Watch Dogs franchises.

Since it opened its Montreal studio in 1997, Ubisoft has invested more than $3.5 billion in the Quebec region. The announcement of this expansion will increase Ubisoft’s investment to $9 billion, and see the workforce grow to 4,600 people. Ubisoft has also pledged to invest $13 million into the education sector, applied university research and will support tech start-ups.

Mallat spoke about the expansion plans, saying that, ‘With these direct investments in the ecosystem, Ubisoft is concretely participating in the development of specialised technological expertise, a long-term enabler of success for the Province of Quebec.’
