According to a report on Australian video game website mygen, Gears of War players will be treated to two new multiplayer maps later this week.
The two new maps are titled Raven Down and Old Bones, and will be released for free on January 11.
Raven Down features a downed Raven helicopter in the middle of a large scale battle with, you’ve guessed it, the Locust Horde. Old Bones is set at Sera’s Capitaline Museums where the Locust Horde has emerged and is destroying the museums brick by brick.
Epic Games vice president Mark Rein has today confirmed that the news is legitimate, also revealing that a patch will be released prior to the new content.
“This is legit. The Gears update will go out over Xbox Live before the downloadable content is available. We’ll post some more information about this in the morning,” Rein wrote on the official Gears of War forums.
Update: Microsoft has now confirmed that the two new Gears of War maps will be released on Wednesday 10th January here in the UK.
The maps are sponsored by the Discovery Channel, which is also giving away an unprecedented 2 million Microsoft Points. To be in with a chance of winning some points you need to head over to readyaim.com from 13th January and enter your Gamertag.
