PS4 is the only console currently able to live-stream directly on Twitch and it looks like the functionality will be extended to offer stream archives in the future, Sony has confirmed.
Asked by Joystiq if PS4 streams will be offered in an archive at some point in the future – as they are with PC streams – Sony said it is “planning to add [Twitch] livestream archiving in the future”.
Sony didn’t offer any indication of time-scale or the quality of the archived footage.
Twitch’s VP of Marketing Matthew DiPietro also suggested that there’s nothing to prevent the same functionality being provided to Xbox One users when broadcasting is added to the platform next year.
“We find archiving to be an exciting part of the broadcast experience, especially since broadcasters and their viewers love to be able to revisit and share some of their most memorable moments,” said DiPietro. “It’s up to our partners to determine if it’s a feature set they want to offer as part of their Twitch integration, so we encourage them to keep this functionality top of mind.”
