Twisted Metal will finally be released in Europe on March 7, David Jaffe has revealed. And when the game arrives, it'll feature split-screen co-op for both online and local play.
Jaffe announced the new date via his Twitter feed this morning. The ever-colourful developer also fielded questions from his followers about the car-based combat game, including questions about split-screen play:
"Let me be 100% clear :)- there IS 2 player split screen online in new TM," he wrote, "There is NOT online campaign co-op BUT there IS LOCAL split screen co-op.Does that help/make sense?I know it can get a bit confusing:)...but there is 100% s-screen online!"
But Dave, does the game support four-way split-screen?
"F**k yes TM has 2-4player split!2psplit is 30+ maps.3/4Psplit=10 mapsw/6modes w/lots of host options2keep party gaming fresh!"
The nature of Twitter means Jaffe has had to compress his words, so here's our translation: You can play with split-screen either online or offline, but the campaign only allows for offline split-screen. Online split-screen will be limited to other modes. Two-way split-screen allows for play on over 30 maps, whereas playing with three or four people will limit the game to 10 maps, which in turn support six different modes.
When asked about the absence of online campaign co-op, Jaffe frankly replied:
"Could not get it done and tuned in time."
Jaffe also downplayed rumours that he's about to abandon his habit of making hardcore games:
"The rumours of me making casual games post TM- as many of you define them- are highly exaggerated."
