Sony is reported to have signed Crank co-director Brian Taylor to make a Twisted Metal film.

According to Deadline, Taylor has been hired to write and direct the project, with his fee set at an undisclosed 7-digit figure.

This will be the first time Taylor has directed a film alone, as he usually works with Mark Neveldine. Together the pair made Crank 1 and 2, Gamer, and the newly-released Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance.

The film will be produced by Marvel CEO Avi Arad, who previously acted as producer on every superhero movie you’ve ever seen… or most of the post-Millenial Marvel ones, at any rate. He did the Spider-Man films and the first Iron Man, among others.

Needless to say there are hardly any plot details yet, but Deadline claims that Doll Face will be in it, along with Sweet Tooth and Calypso. Given those last two are pretty much the biggest icons of the franchise, that’s hardly surprising.

Arad knows his stuff, but I can’t say Taylor is a particularly encouraging presence. I’ve never gotten around to seeing Crank, but a quick poll of the office resulted in a flurry of faecal synonyms.
