The Trine series has now sold over 7 million copies worldwide across eight platforms, Frozenbyte has announced.

In celebration of the milestone, the editor tools for Trine Enhanced Edition and Trine 2: Complete Story have been released via Steam. Using the tool players can edit existing maps, create entirely new maps, or even create a completely different game. User creations can be published on the Steam Workshop pages for the two games.

In addition, both Trine and Trine 2 are free to play this weekend as part of Steam’s biggest ever free weekend.

“We’ve reached a higher userbase than we ever thought possible,” said CEO of Frozenbyte Lauri Hyvärinen, “but now we hope that people who’ve yet to play the Trine games will give them a shot during the Free Weekend on Steam.

“Opening up the games to user generated content is something we’ve wanted to do for a long time, and we’re thrilled to see what people can come up with using the Editors.”
