Wrestling sensation John Cena is reportedly being lined up to star in a movie adaptation of Duke Nukem. According to the Hollywood Reporter, the project has yet to attract a director, although it’s already brought a producer on board in the shape of Platinum Dunes.

Not much else is known at present, although it’s believed the movie will be a starring vehicle for Cena, who has recently made the transition into films like so many of his peers. The article also states that a search for a writer will commence soon.

The rights to the Duke Nukem movie were previously in the hands of Dimension Films, although once they expired the property was snapped up by Paramount. It’s also worth mentioning that Cena has recently gotten all chummy with the studio, having starred in Daddy’s Home 2 and featuring in the upcoming Transformers spin-off, Bumblebee.

Cena’s definitely a fine fit for the potty-mouthed action hero. I mean, look at him; even his muscles have muscles. Unfortunately, the Duke hasn’t had the best track record lately. His last major video game outing, Duke Nukem Forever, took 15 years to come out and was, to be frank, rather s**t.
