Wii Sports Tennis has been a huge success as part of the Wii Sports package, with players of all ages and skill levels able to pick up and play a quick and simple match. However, for players wishing for more depth to the play, Wii Sports Tennis falls some way short and this is where 2K Sports’ Top Spin for Wii hopes to attract its audience.

The critically acclaimed franchise has already graced the Xbox 360 and sequels are in development for PS3 and Xbox 360, but this Wii version promises to be the most accessible of the series.

Developed by 2K’s Paris studio PAM Development in conjunction with 2K Shanghai, Top Spin Tennis for Wii will enable players to use the Wii Remote to perform the swing action just like playing the real thing. Players can perform different strokes, with varying power levels all through the Wii Remote. For added realism, the Remote will vibrate when the on-screen character hits the ball.

Top Spin Tennis on Wii will also enable players to accurately aim and manoeuvre the player around the court through use of the analogue stick on the Nunchuck.

2K Sports is promising a host of gameplay modes including singles, doubles, mixed and non-mixed matches, exhibition, tournaments and more, with four levels of difficulty and ten international arenas. In addition to single-player game modes, up to four players will be able to compete on the one console, either in a standard game of tennis or in a collection of mini-games.

Top Spin Tennis for the Wii is scheduled for release in spring 2008.
