Activision’s second game in the rebooted Tony Hawk video game franchise, board-controller compatible Tony Hawk: Shred, sold only 3,000 copies during its first week on sale in the US, reports GamesIndustry.biz.

Analysts Cowan and Company described the game’s debut as a “virtual no-show”.

Performing marginally better in October, but still relatively poorly was DJ Hero 2 which sold 59,000 copies during its first two weeks on sale.

EA’s MMA, recently described as dead on arrival shifted only 45,000 copies in the October period, while the publisher’s Medal of Honor sold just over one million copies during October.

The failure of Tony Hawk: Shred must signal a change in strategy for Activision in the extreme sports space. Last month developer Robomodo released 60 staff and said it would no longer be working on the franchise, but in which studio’s hands it will end up remains unclear.
