Oscar nominated writing duo Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby have been brought on board to write the new Tomb Raider movie project – produced by Graham King and Tim Headington.

King’s GK Films acquired the Tomb Raider feature film rights earlier this year with a planned 2013 release date.

The goal is to create an “origin story for Lara Croft that solidifies her place alongside Ellen Ripley and Sarah Connor in the pantheon of great female action heroes”.

Fergus and Ostby worked on Alfonso Cuaron’s Children of Men, for which they earned an Oscar nom in the best adapted screenplay category. They are also credited on 2008’s Iron Man and worked on Warner Bros’ adaptation of Japanese animation Akira.

No actors have been cast for the movie.
