Hot off the heels of the Super Mario Galaxy Movie direct, a brand new Nintendo Direct focused entirely on wacky life simulator Tomodachi Life Living the Dream has just been announced to take place on Thursday, January 29.

This 20-minute Nintendo Direct will finally peel back the curtain on Tomodachi Life’s long-awaited sequel, which promises a charming life simulation game set on an island filled with your very own roster of Mii characters.

Here’s a breakdown of when the Nintendo Direct will take place by timezone:

  • 6am PST
  • 9am EST
  • 2pm GMT
  • 3pm CET
  • 1am AEDT

Nintendo first revealed Tomodachi Life Living the Dream in March 2025, but so far, we have no release date. With any luck, this Nintendo Direct should clue us in on when this all-new Mii-filled life stimulator will release for the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2.

Director’s cut

Tomodachi Life Living the Dream is the sequel to the beloved 3DS life simulator Tomodachi Life, which places you in charge of an island containing an empty apartment building. One by one, you create your own characters in the form of Nintendo’s iconic and customizable Mii characters.

As you watch over and take care of these Miis, you see them live out their chaotic lives filled with strange dreams, off-key singing, and plenty of relationship drama. It’s a little like The Sims, for those keeping score.

While we know it will also take place on an island with customizable Mii characters, the sequel has been a mystery to us so far. Considering the 20-minute runtime of the upcoming Nintendo Direct, we can expect to see a whole host of new features for Nintendo’s brand new life stimulator.

This will most likely include a glimpse at all of the different soap-opera style interactions that your Mii characters will share, as well as all kinds of new wacky dreams for them to dream and foods for them to enjoy.

We’re also eager to see a broader array of Mii customization options, which were what gave the first 3DS game its charm. If the customization from cutesy, customizable Mii-centric RPG Miitopia on the Nintendo Switch is anything to go by, there should be endless customization options to make all sorts of different Mii characters.

Tomodachi Life Living the Dream is releasing for the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 in Spring 2026. With any luck, this new Nintendo Direct will show us that it will be just as chaotic and charming as the original Tomodachi Life for the 3DS.
