Following its PSP releases of Colin McRae Rally 2005 Plus and TOCA Race Driver 2 comes Codemasters’ third motorsports release for Sony’s handheld. TOCA Race Driver 3 Challenge promises to deliver an incredibly diverse range of racing specialities, all presented in the perfect package for short bursts of play.

The game features an all-new championship structure, the World Challenge. This forms the heart of the game and requires the player to perfect a range of racing skills before taking to the track in championship races. Players will have to complete five championship tiers, each offering new skill tests, specialised events and race championships spanning different racing styles.

Players will have to complete challenges such as ‘Bring It Home’, where a heavily damaged car must be driven to the finish of the race with only a few laps remaining. Other challenges include ‘No Damage’, which requires the player to compete with aggressive opponents and finish the race with as little damage as possible; ‘Steering Control’, in which players have to manoeuvre through a slalom course of cones; and ‘Drive the Line’, tasking the player with racing the perfect racing line as shown on the track.

There’s also support for up to 12 players to go head-to-head using the PSP’s wireless capabilities. A welcome addition over TOCA 2 is a Game Share option, making it possible for four players to compete with only one game UMD.

The game will feature 36 world-famous tracks and 40 of the world’s most exciting real competition cars, including the Audi A4 DTM, AMG-Mercedes C-Klasse DTM, WilliamsF1 Team FW 27, TVR T400 R and the coolest motors from the British GT championship.

TOCA Race Driver 3 Challenge is scheduled for release on the PSP on February 16.
