EA has announced the launch of Tiger Woods PGA Tour Online, an authentic golf video game playable through a web browser with no game installation, no game disc and no additional peripherals required.

While EA claims the game to be free-to-play, and it is for two courses, you’ll need to pay to get the most from the experience.

Unlimited access to courses will be gained through a monthly £6.99 subscription or a £49.99 payment for a year’s membership. The game also utilises a points-based transaction system, allowing players to purchase packages of points to be used in game to buy rounds of golf or items from the Pro Shop.

A round of golf appears to cost 100 points to non-subscribers (roughly equivalent to £0.80).

“Consumers have an increasing appetite for authentic gaming experiences online and EA Sports is driving innovation and growth in the online gaming category, from consoles to mobile devices and the web,” said EA Sports President Peter Moore. “The launch of Tiger Woods PGA TOUR Online signals a shift in the traditional distribution model and will change the way that people will be able to access and enjoy their favourite video games for years to come.”

EA promises that the community will play an integral role in driving the game’s evolution by influencing new course releases, tournament enhancements and key game features.
