EA Sports has announced that Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11, due for release in June, will support the PlayStation 3 motion controller and include The Ryder Cup for the first time. Tiger 11 will also be released on Wii, Xbox 360 and iPhone.

Gamers will be able to try and bring home The Ryder Cup for their squad, playing for Europe or the US across the numerous competition formats: Foursomes, fourballs and singles. This year, to reflect the inclusion of The Ryder Cup, Tiger will share the box art with current European favourite Rory McIlroy. The young Irish player is currently ranked 9th in the world.

“This is a huge honour for me to be the on the cover with Tiger Woods as I grew up idolising Tiger,” said McIlroy. “The Ryder Cup has always been my favourite sporting event and the tournament is being played at The Celtic Manor Resort in Wales in 2010. Also, I’m hopeful to have an opportunity to represent the European team later in the year – it’s all very special”

If playing as a team against the AI isn’t enough, you’ll also be able to go online (on Xbox 360 and PS3), taking part in full 12 vs 12 tournaments to recreate the true Ryder Cup experience.

On Wii the game will include two all-new enhanced swing mechanics: The Advanced Swing difficulty and the Tour Pro swing mechanic. The Advanced swing will read rotation and swing angle, while the Tour Pro swing assesses rotation, swing plane and point of contact, all using Wii MotionPlus.

When using the Tour Pro swing the game uses a first-person camera angle from the tee box to the putting green called True View. True View is said to create the most immersive and authentic golf experience in any video game.
