Update: The game was funded in just three hours and the team at Awaken Realms is now working on offering additional stretch goals in anticipation of greater demand.
“Wow, just wow. Whole team behind the game is left without words, you guys are AMAZING! This really is important game, it carries strong message and having you help us with it is very uplifting!” reads an update from the creators.
“We have prepared many stretch goals for you as well! (thou after those 3 hours we know, we need to get back to work ASAP and create more… just in case).”
The Kickstarter is currently at £79k, almost double its funding goal of £80k. It does have some way to go if it’s to catch the Dark Souls board game, which is likely to pass the £2.5 million mark today.
Original report: Acclaimed indie game This War of Mine has transitioned to the table-top world with a Kickstarter for a board game having launched today.
Based on the game from 11 bit studios, the board game has been created by Michal Oracz, designer of Neuroshima Hex!, and Jakub Wisniewski, the storyteller behind Dying Light.
“This War of Mine: The Board Game is a fully co-operative, open and play, survival experience. In this challenging, story-driven game for 1-6 players, you will play as group of civilians trapped in a city torn by a military conflict,” reads the campaign blurb.
It continues: “To survive, you will need to make tough moral choices, delivered in a role-playing style. You will also scavenge, manage, fight, trade and upgrade your shelter. This tabletop adaptation is based on one of the biggest indie games of recent years. TWOM: TBG offers you an experience that is hard to come by in any other tabletop game. Combined with the highest quality components created by experienced companies, this title will fully engage you with its meaningful story. It is high time for board games to address important topics.”
If successful the game will feature over 430 high-quality components, including 12 figures, a companion mobile app, over one thousand unique stories, and an open & play system.
To promote the launch of the Kickstarter, a livestream of the game’s cover art being created will take place today at 11pm BST on YouTube.
At the time of writing the game has already reached £15,000 of its £40,000 goal, so it seems safe to assume it will be fully funded.
