After a day of finger pointing and retracting those stiff fingers, relating to PS3 overheating issues when playing LA Noire, it would appear that neither Rockstar or Sony are to blame. And why’s that? Because there is no overheating problem, insists Sony.

A joint statement from the pair explained: “We have received a very small number of customer support questions about PS3s overheating or shutting down while playing L.A. Noire. At this time, Rockstar Games and Sony can confirm that neither LA Noire or firmware update 3.61 are causing the PS3 hardware to overheat.”

SCEE head of communications Nick Caplin added: “There is not an over heating problem with PS3. Occasionally a PS3 over heats for numerous reasons and we’re not seeing an increased number of reports at the moment.”

In case any further clarification was needed, Caplin concluded: “The point is that there is no problem. With so many PS3s in the market, the odd one is bound to overheat and for some reason this has been made to sound like a particular issue.”

After the month Sony’s had the last thing it needed was a new customer relations nightmare with overheating PS3s hitting the headlines. Whether or not the issue goes away remains to be seen.
