Mass Effect Andromeda creative director Mac Walters said there would be ‘over 1,200’ characters with dialogue in the game, which producer Michael Gamble later detailed further at PAX East.

On the official Twitch live stream at the event, Walters stated that Mass Effect 3 had approximately 670 speaking characters, while Andromeda looks to come close in doubling that figure. He also added ‘we’re basically [at] the equivalent of Mass Effect 2 and 3 put together,’ when addressing the amount of dialogue options that your character will have when talking to NPCs,

Speaking to PC Gamer, Gamble said that while the number of characters in the game is larger than than before, the things you can say to characters is also more extensive. Your teammates will also benefit from this more chatty approach as Gamble went onto say, ‘we made sure the squad was beefy, and developed, and that you could do different things with them and then that information would basically carry through the conversations. That was a large focus. Yeah, in terms of the amount of writing, that was increased, and the number of characters was also increased.’

Mass Effect Andromeda will be released on March 21 in North America, and March 23 in Europe, on PC, Xbox One, and PS4.
