The Order: 1886 may have already earned praise for its impressive visuals, but there are games in development for this generation of consoles that are going to look “so much better” than Ready At Dawn’s debut PS4 title, the developer has said.

“I know that there’s games coming out that are going to be so much better than the ones that we make even, visually,” CEO Ru Weerasuriya told VideoGamer.com at an event held in London last week. “This generation is going to be pretty sweet. I’m excited purely because of this and what I’m thinking is going to be next – what I know we’re going to do next.”

“I’m just excited because things are going to start looking better and better, and they’re going to play better and we’re going to be able to do every single type of game in this kind of visual fidelity.”

The Order’s astounding visuals, however, may have swayed some people into believing there isn’t much more to the game than pretty graphics, Weerasuriya believes.

“I think that people have pretty much assumed at this point that if it looks this way there’s probably not much to the game,” he said, shortly after explaining that Ready At Dawn “didn’t make this game as a QTE game”.

“As a matter of fact, [QTEs are] sparse. I think people actually automatically assumed it was that kind of game maybe because of the way it looks. I’ve been told before that people looked at the game, looked at the visuals, and just said, ‘Oh well, it’s kind of like those games that are just QTE games. They look pretty but you just push a button once in a [while]’.

“Games don’t have to look bad to actually play well,” he continued. “For us, the visuals don’t change whether you’re playing full-blown gun combat to little QTE moments that are here and there.”

The Order: 1886 launches on PS4 this Friday.
