Nintendo's upcoming cardboard-based Yoshi game for the Switch has been delayed until 2019, the format holder has confirmed.

News of a delay emerged overnight when a Nintendo eShop listing no longer pegged the game for a 2018 launch. Sure enough, Game Informer contacted the company, who said that Yoshi will indeed now launch next year.

As you've probably guessed by now, Yoshi isn't showing his face at this year's E3, either.

Yoshi wasn't the only major title absent from the Los Angeles games bash; Metroid Prime 4 also failed to appear, although Nintendo said it wasn't ready to be shown.

It wasn't all bad though. Ninty had a brilliant showing for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, which features every single character to appear in the series to date.

Yoshi for Switch was originally announced at E3 last year.
