Netflix is producing a TV series based on Andrzej Sapkowski’s set of novels known as The Witcher Saga. Developer CD Projekt Red, who used Sapkowski’s work as the basis for their hugely successful RPG trilogy of The Witcher games is not involved, as reported by PCGamesN.

Sapkowski will act as a creative consultant to the TV show and seems to be pretty thrilled about the whole thing. ‘I’m thrilled that Netflix will be doing an adaptation of my stories, staying true to the source material and the themes that I have spent over thirty years writing.’

Executive Producers Sean Daniel and Jason Brown have a decent list of credits between them in The Mummy, Ben-Hur, and The Expanse. Tomas Baginski, one of the people behind the opening cinematics in all three Witcher titles, will also direct at least one episode per season.

While CD Projekt Red have no involvement in the series whatsoever, they did say ‘[we] are looking forward to watching the series on Netflix!’ The relationship between author Andrzej Sapkowski and developer CD Projekt Red is a little bit tetchy as Sapkowski doesn’t reap any of the rewards from the games’ sales. In an interview with Eurogamer earlier this year, he said he got a one-off payment prior to the development of the first game.

I’m guessing this deal is a little different.
