Nintendo boss Tatsumi Kimishima has announced (via GameSpot) that Switch’s paid online service is rolling out this September.
The Kyoto-based hardware giant originally intended to have the service out by fall of last year, but delayed it for reasons unknown. Online gaming has been free since Switch rolled off production lines in March 2017.
Ninty previously said it would be offering three subscription models: One month ($3.99), three months ($7.99), and 12 months ($19.99). However, it has yet to clarify if these prices still stand. If they do, then it’s worth pointing out they are considerably cheaper than what Sony and Microsoft are offering for their respective online services.
Regardless, as of this fall you’ll need to fork out cash to play online for Switch, although you can still access the eShop, register/manage friends, and share screenshots over social media.
Nintendo is expected to reveal more details in the next month or so, so stay tuned for more info.
