As promised, the official The Sims 3 website has been updated with a bunch of new info and screens – although the site does appear to be experiencing some teething problems.

What makes The Sims 3 different from The Sims 2 is the open, living neighbourhood in which your Sims will exist, offering more freedom than any previous The Sims title could boast. Sims will be able to roam their neighbourhood, visit neighbours and explore the surroundings – perhaps a trip to the park where they will meet friends or even make new friends. A chance encounter could even lead to something special developing down the road.

The game also promises a new Create A Sim tool, making it simple to create a Sim with unlimited customisation. Choose your Sim’s shape and size, facial features, skin tone, hair, eye shape and colour, and clothing and accessories.

Each Sim will also have a much more realistic personality, each being unique. Choose from dozens of personality traits such as brave, artistic, loner, perfectionist, klepto, romantic, clumsy, paranoid, and much more. Create a reclusive genius or a party-going imbecile.

Not only can your Sims be customised, but the world they live in can too. Build a dream house, customising everything from floors to flowers, shirts to sofas, wallpaper to window shades. Changing colours and patterns means there should be almost endless personalisation options. There’ll also be a huge range of pre-designed buildings and furnishings available to players.

The Sims 3 is currently without a release date.
