Indie studio Blazing Griffin has announced The Ship: HD, an HD remake of 2006’s quirky multiplayer murder ’em up due for release early next year.

Due for release early next year, the game’s first teaser trailer suggests that fans should expect a major visual overhaul to the PC shooter, with significantly improved lighting and animation.

Exact details on how it differs to the original release, however, have yet to be announced.

First released as a mod for Half-Life almost 10 years ago, The Ship saw players hunting down a target while avoiding their own would-be killer, similar to Assassin’s Creed’s competitive multiplayer mode.

The Ship: HD will also help form the basis of future games in the series, Blazing Griffin suggests, and while the developer doesn’t have “any firm plans” for a sequel, it does have a “long term vision for the franchise”.

“With this in mind, much of the work being carried out for The Ship: HD will also contribute to future projects,” the developer says. “We’re committed to recreating the experience that fans of The Ship had when they first played the game and look forward to working with the community to this end.”
