A video game based on the hard-hitting US television drama The Shield was announced back in March 2004 by Sammy Studios. Sammy Studios then became High Moon Studios and The Shield went off the release radar – presumed cancelled.
However, over the weekend Aspyr Media announced it has signed an exclusive agreement with 20th Century Fox to publish The Shield. Aspyr describes the game as a “knockdown, drag-em-out brawler,” and expect a story to fit nicely with the feel of the show.
Players will take on the role of Mackey, leader of the Elite Strike Team, a special police unit located deep within the criminal underworld of Los Angeles. You must do whatever it takes to clean up the streets. Slightly worrying is the news that the game is now being developed by Point of View, the team behind the not so great NARC for Midway.
The game will be released in North America and Europe this winter for the PC and PlayStation 2.
