Pokémon Go will definitely be getting Pokémon trading and PvP battles, at some point. The additional features have been announced previously, but are yet to be implemented into the game. The Pokémon Company CEO, Tsunekazu Ishihara, spoke about Pokémon Go and its progress in an interview with Bloomberg, saying that, ‘We’ve only accomplished 10 percent of what Pokémon and Niantic are trying to do.’

Ishihara has expanded on this, stating that, ‘Going forward we will have to include fundamental Pokémon experiences such as Pokémon trading and peer-to-peer battles, and other possibilities.’ These are key elements of the Pokémon experience, and are featured in all the other Pokémon-based games that’ve been released.

Pokémon Go is based around catching Pokémon according to the location of the player, ‘Right now, if you go to the coast you can catch water Pokémon’, said Ishihara, as he explained that not all Pokémon could be geo-located according to their elemental ability, ‘If you have a setting for electric-type Pokémon (such as Pikachu) to appear at power plants, is that really a good idea for you to find one in such a location — is it safe?’, probably not Ishihara-san.

It was previously announced that any trading would have to take place with nearby players, and this was being seen as a solution to the issue of Pokémon being spawned based on locations. This would give players an opportunity to catch Pokémon that only appear in certain places, regardless of their regional climate.
