I’ve been working my way through The Order: 1886 this week, and yes, as that early playthrough suggested, it really is just 5 and a half hours long.

Playing on the default ‘Medium’ difficulty, my final playtime came in at 5 hours and 37 minutes. And to be clear, this wasn’t a speed run. I approached my initial playthrough exactly as I would with any other game, taking the time to scour each level for collectibles, dying a handful of times, and even stopping to take some screenshots. Looks incredible, doesn’t it?

Quite how Ready At Dawn expects an average playthrough to last almost twice as long as mine, however, leaves me puzzled. There’s little room for exploration (the player is guided down set paths for large parts of the game), and there’s no reason (other than to stare at the remarkable visuals) to stop moving forward.

In fact, one NeoGAF user’s analysis of the leaked footage appears to be fairly representative of my own experience with the game, and while I didn’t time exactly how much gameplay there is to cutscenes, the figure quoted there would, at a guess, appear to be fairly accurate.

But regardless of how long it takes to finish, is The Order worth your time at all? Steve’s pieced together his opinions here in his review, and you can also hear his thoughts and see some brand new gameplay footage in our High Pressure Video Review.

The Order: 1886 launches exclusively on PS4 tomorrow.
