TheWrap is reporting that Warner Bros.' planned movie adaptation of Minecraft has been pushed back following the departure of director and co-writer, Rob McElhenney.

The delay means the film won't hit its intended May 2019 release window, with Warner Bros. now eyeing up Aaron and Adam Nee to pen a new script. Vertigo Entertainment's Roy Lee is set to produce the movie alongside Jill Messick.

Not much is known about the Minecraft film right now, although we imagine it'll definitely adopt the blocky, retro aesthetic the games are known for. It wouldn't really be Minecraft without it, right?

Minecraft was first announced four years and is probably not a massive surprise; the game has sold over 100 million copies worldwide, so it was inevitable a film would be made at some point.

Right now it's anyone's guess as to when it'll show up following the delay, though.
