The Last of Us will launch in the UK on May 7, 2013, SCEE has confirmed to VideoGamer.com, the same day the game goes on sale in the US.

Naughty Dog’s post-apocalyptic survival adventure was dated during this weekend’s VGAs, alongside the reveal of a stunning second gameplay trailer. You can take a look at that below.

As well as announcing a release date, Naughty Dog later confirmed that the game would include a multiplayer mode, but held back on releasing further details.

“Multiplayer, wha?” wrote Naughty Dog’s community strategy Arne Meyer on the US PlayStation Blog. “We’re not quite ready to talk about it yet, but stay tuned as we’ll be revealing more details on multiplayer before The Last of Us is released on May 7th, 2013.”

The announcement of a multiplayer mode attracted some criticisms from fans, however, who accused Naughty Dog of “skimping out on the single player experience so there’s more time to build a mediocre multiplayer mode.”

But ND refutes such claims.

“TLOU has been in preproduction and production for quite some time,” Meyer responded, “the SP portion of the game hasn’t been skimped out on in any way.”

He added: “MP has never taken away resources from the SP game in any of our games, always separate teams, separate resources. The folks working on the single player campaign always have the resources and support to complete that portion of the game to the vision they planned for.”
