UPDATE [12/02/2013 – 16:00]: GameStop has altered the release date back to May 7, 2013. However, VGRevolution claims to have received a shot of the email sent to Best Buy customers informing them of the delay.

ORIGINAL STORY: The Last of Us has been delayed by six weeks, according to a revised release date at US retailer GameStop and emails allegedly sent to pre-order customers at Best Buy.

GameStop’s website lists the game for release on June 18, six weeks after its previously announced May 7 release date.

Meanwhile, a tweet from a customer who pre-ordered the game at Best Buy claims to have received an email advising them of the delay.

Sony has yet to announce a delay, however, and the game is still listed for release on May 7 on its official website.

If true, though, The Last of Us’s delay would be the second major delay to hit the industry within the last two weeks.

Last month, Rockstar announced that GTA 5 had been delayed until September 2013, around four months later than its original planned release.
