Swashbuckling adventure romp Sea of Thieves is set to receive a number of additional content in the coming months, with developer Rare attempting to keep budding pirates entertained with the lure of new riches in the open-world title.

Writing in a new blog post, the studio revealed that it will be working to enrich the game world by offering new ways to play, encouraging different types of encounters, and offering up a treasure chest of new goals and rewards to tuck into. The Hungering Deep is the first major update planned for Sea of Thieves, which is due to hit the high seas next month.

Rare is keeping finer details close to its chest right now, but has promised the update will introduce a ‘new AI threat’ that players must work together in order to discover and defeat in a fresh event. We’re also promised new mechanics and rewards as part of the update, while May will also see the launch of weekly events for Sea of Thieves players.

Beyond this, Rare has announced plans to drop two new content updates in the summer in the shape of Cursed Sails and Forsaken Shores, which include a new ship type and location, respectively. If that wasn’t enough, both of these updates will also augment Sea of Thieves with even more new mechanics and threats in order to keep things fresh.

Sea of Thieves was released for PC and Xbox One on March 20.
