Ubisoft has begun issuing codes to select PS4 and Xbox One users inviting them to download the closed beta for upcoming online racer The Crew.

The beta begins today and, while Ubisoft has yet to set an end date, rumours suggest the beta will be live until this Saturday, October 4.

Progress won’t be carried over to the final game, however, creative director Julian Gerighty told The Examiner, explaining that the test is a “technical beta” and not a “marketing beta”.

“All of our betas so far have been technical betas,” he said. “They are not marketing betas. They are not there for anything else except for learning how we can make the experience better when we launch.

“They are also to get feedback from the community, but it’s not a marketing beta. There are lots of functions that probably won’t be turned on.”

He continued: “Please play it, but it’s a technical beta and you shouldn’t expect everything to be unlocked and transfer to the full game.”

To receive a download code for the beta you’ll have had to have previously registered your interest and been selected to participate.

Haven’t received one? All is not lost. We took the PC beta for a spin earlier this year which proved to be… interesting. Take a look at the video below for our tour across America.

The full game launches on Xbox One, PS4, PC and Xbox 360 on November 11.
