Superb dungeon crawler The Bard's Tale 4 is getting overhauled by way of a new Director's Cut version of the game, developer inXile has announced.

Speaking in a new Kickstarter update, the studio confirmed that the Director's Cut release was born from patch 2.0 of The Bard's Tale 4, and includes an update to the game's engine, DLC, and various quality-of-life improvements.

'As the scope of the patch has expanded (and continues to), we decided that it warranted a more formal title than 2.0. When released, it will turn the game into The Bard’s Tale 4: Barrows Deep – Director’s Cut,' reads the update.

'We are introducing several new features, most notably the previously mentioned DLC and an engine update, a larger undertaking allowing us to further improve performance and optimization.'

In addition to a new dungeon and enemies, inXile is promising inventory filtering, a 'Song of Exploration' feature allowing players to circumvent puzzles, and 'expanded balancing efforts across the entire game.'

inXile is targeting a June release date for the Director's Cut release of The Bard's Tale 4. Sadly, it has also confirmed that the planned Mac and Linux versions of the game have been postponed until the Director's Cut release arrives.
