Enhance Games' Tetris Effect is hiding a nostalgia-scented surprise in the form of a stage inspired by the 1989 Game Boy version of the block-building phenomenon.

The stage is accessed by reaching level 50, which shouldn't prove too difficult, and includes some brilliant visual effects that helps recreates the iconic Tetris title from Nintendo's multi-million selling handheld.

These include a green hue that replicates the Game Boy's original screen (remember, Tetris came out before the Game Boy Color was even a thing), and if you're like me will probably make you feel just a bit old. Still, it looks great, and it's cool to see the developer give the original Tetris a nod.

You can check out the Game Boy stage, known simply as 1989, in the video below (via PST).
