Test Drive Unlimited is now only a few months away from release and Atari has released some final details of what we can look forward to.
The game will feature more than 1000 miles of Hawaiian roads to explore, with each metre of road, building and landmark mapped using real GPS data. In this massive racing environment there will be 360 multiplayer and solo challenges to complete. These include a combined 125 online and offline race challenges, 44 time challenges, 51 speed challenges, 40 club challenges, and plenty more. If the game’s set challenges aren’t enough then you can always take to the streets and challenge players from all over the world in races featuring up to eight players.
Test Drive Unlimited puts a lot of focus on owning the world’s most luxurious cars and bikes currently available, with more than 90 included in the game. Some of the big name manufacturers in the game include Lamborghini, Ducati, Aston Martin, Ferrari, Shelby, Mercedes, Pagani, Koenigsegg, Saleen and Jaguar – vehicles will also be made available for the game over Xbox Live.
As a racing game with a heavy tilt towards online play, individuality is very important. The game gives players their own custom avatar with a choice of popular branded clothes and a range of hair styles, colourings, and the ability to fine tune all the facial features. Your vehicles will also be customisable with catalogue upgrades and performance enhancements.
Cruising around entering into races isn’t just to show off – wining races will earn you money, thus enabling you to buy a fancy new house in the hills. Once you have the house you can get to work on filling the garage with all the cars you’ve dreamed of owning. Buying vehicles has also been painstakingly recreated, with precise replicas of manufacturers’ real-life showrooms scattered around the game world, ready for you to look around and even take cars out for a test drive.
It’s been a long time coming, but Test Drive Unlimited will finally be released for the Xbox 360 in September. PC, PS2 and PSP versions are set to follow at a later date.
