Despite the recent lawsuits against TERA developers Bluehole and En Masse, plans for region-based IP blocking are already mapped out.
En Masse, the American subsidiary of Bluehole, has stated the firm will block IP addresses based on region, with Asia, Africa, Russia, and the Middle East currently on their block list.
Explaining the reasoning behind this move, the company stated:
“While we appreciate that there are players in these regions who would enjoy playing on En Masse servers, it’s unfortunate that the vast majority of internet traffic we see from these regions is from cyber-criminals relating to account theft, gold-farming and other hacking behaviour.”
The firm added that a proxy or server host will be blocked if it becomes a popular tool for criminal behaviour.
NCsoft’s recent lawsuit accuses Bluehole of stealing material relating to MMO Lineage 3, however it is unknown whether enough information is available to put an end to the North American release of TERA.
