Tekken X Street Fighter still has around 40 staff working on the title, but work on Tekken 7 is taking priority, series creator Katsuhiro Harada has told Polygon.

The title was announced alongside Street Fighter X Tekken back in 2010, with that game launching in 2012. Bandai Namco’s title is still nowhere to be seen.

“It’s very difficult to talk about,” he explained. “Obviously, I had originally planned to release it much earlier than we’re currently looking at.”

Many of the 40 people still working on the game are also splitting their time with Tekken 7, the game which Harada says “will be our big thing for the next while”.

Harada is also unable to offer any kind of release date for the crossover fighter, but suggests it could appear as a free-to-play title.

“I don’t know if that’s what we have planned, but we do plan to have some kind of surprise,” he concluded.
