After becoming the first 3D fighter to land on PS3 in Japan and Hong Kong, Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection could be going for a combo by beating its closest rival to launch in the US as well.

Sega’s Virtua Fighter 5 is currently scheduled for release Stateside on February 20 but now Namco Bandai has announced it is readying Tekken 5: DR for launch later “this month”, meaning it could potentially arrive first there too.

The 800MB downloadable game is based on the earlier arcade edition and has been optimised for the HD era with 1080p visuals. There is also the opportunity to take control of previously unplayable final boss, Jinpachi Mishima.

A UK release date for Tekken 5: DR on PS3 has yet to be confirmed.
