UPDATES: The circumstances surrounding Jerson Lopez de Leon’s death seem unclear, with other online reports stating that the pair may have been “ambushed” by attackers in the street.
The Sun and The Independent both cite local reports as saying that the pair “were walking alongside an old railway line when they were shot at by a passing vehicle”. The Metro adds that police “are now hunting the driver and occupants of a van seen speeding from the scene”.
ORIGINAL STORY: An 18 year-old man from Guatemala has been killed after allegedly breaking into a house while playing Pokemon Go, the Mirror reports.
Jerson Lopez de Leon allegedly broke into the home to catch the virtual monsters, before being shot dead. His younger cousin, Daniel Moises Picen, is reported to have been injured in the incident, too.
If accurate, Lopez de Leon is believed to be the first person to have died while playing the hit mobile game, which has taken the world by storm since launching earlier this month.
Yesterday, the BBC reported that a Bosnian demining charity has warned players not to accidentally stray into minefields while playing the game. Meanwhile, a video posted online by Baltimore Police shows a man crashing into a police car after being distracted by the game while driving.
