Dead or Alive developer Team Ninja is creating a new Dissidia Final Fantasy arcade game, Square Enix has announced.

As reported by Dengeki Online (and translated by Siliconera), the 3v3 fighter is allegedly being developed “using the PlayStation 4’s core system of technology” and will arrive in Japanese arcades this autumn following a test period in select locations later this month.

But while the arcade release is being built on PS4 tech, a console version has yet to be formally confirmed, with console development not expected to begin until at least a year after the game launches in arcades.

Judging by Dengeki’s report, players will be able to fight as Cloud, Lightning, Y’shtola, Tina Branford, Onion Knight and Warrior of Light, and summon creatures into the battle.

Earlier games in the Dissidia series were developed internally at Square Enix for PSP, with this new release marking the first time the fighting franchise could arrive on home consoles.

It isn’t yet clear whether the game will release outside of Japan.
